Villa Marina Capri Hotel & Spa — Capri

An authentic early-twentieth-century Caprese villa, restored by architect Massimo Esposito, who dedicated each space to a figure who shaped the island's cultural life: Marinetti, Neruda, Malaparte, Axel Munthe, Edwin Cerio. Its 22 rooms and suites, no two alike, are lined with original artworks and memorabilia of these characters, alongside Italian design pieces and generous bathrooms. Rosewood São Paulo — Cidade Matarazzo, Brazil

Built inside Cidade Matarazzo, the former hospital complex where hundreds of thousands of paulistanos were born, now restored and given back to the city. Its soul is two architectures in dialogue: the early-twentieth-century historic buildings and Jean Nouvel's Mata Atlântica tower, built of raw concrete and wooden lattices overtaken by native plants. The interiors are by Philippe Starck, in entirely Brazilian materials, with more than 450 works by local artists throughout. And the food lives up to it: from the 24-hour Le Jardin among the gardens to Blaise and Taraz, with the Rabo di Galo bar and its hand-painted ceiling closing the night.

Mandarin Oriental Bodrum — Turkey

Spread across nearly 60 hectares in secluded Paradise Bay, on the Bodrum peninsula, with two private beaches on the crystalline Aegean, four pools and eleven dining concepts, from Hakkasan's Cantonese to contemporary Japanese. It's a small world by the sea, with a vast spa and a shopping village that gathers the best international labels.
